My 4th of July went off with a bang even though Lucky had to bark out of a great 4th! Being the responsible Maltese mother that I am, I left Lucky at home in peace and quiet (minus the fireworks and festivities) with her feline brother, Pasha and beta fish sister, Wanda. I had an explosively festive time at the NBC Macy’s Fourth OF July Fireworks Spectacular in Brooklyn where I watched the sky light up and waxed patriotic with American Idol runner-up Katherine McPhee and singing sensation Gavin DeGraw! With Lucky out of the loop I found out all the hottest scoop to report when I got back home! Katherine (a.k.a. Kat - but really loves dogs) met me while I was hanging with Duke, the fireworks sniffing bomb dog, and Duke's handler, Detective Lanoce. Some dogs have to work no matter what holiday rolls around – I did feel much safer though – thanks Duke – you’re a prince among dogs.
Kat McPhee shared with me that her beloved Lab passed away recently, “We got our Lab when I was twelve, so she grew up with me, then I went off to college. So she was always like the family dog.” But this sad moment hasn’t stopped McPhee from expanding her animal repertoire, “I got Chihuahuas because I started traveling so much and I am an animal freak. And I can take Nina and Larry (no – not her hair and make-up people, the name of her dogs) anywhere, I put them in a little bag and they’re like humans, there amazing. Gavin Degraw loves walking his brother’s English Staffordshire, named Eddy. The dog has a slight personality disorder though and thinks he’s a Boxer, which gets Gavin in trouble with other dogs (not the usual suspects – women) when they go on long walks – Eddy just can’t help but pick the occasional barking match with four-legged passerby’s. Lucky missed my cameo as I heard I got some play on the show! We ran into footballer Tiki Barber (nothing more American than football – maybe just apple pie) and Natalie Morales from NBC’s Today Show - that's okay though Lucky will see them and be able to catch up on our Today Show segment tomorrow July 8th. This 4th of July was the celebration that kept on giving – at another location Natasha Beningfield, Jordan Sparks, and Kenny Chesney performed!
We are busy getting ready for our annual Paws for Style! Z100 Skeery Jones did my Humane Society of New York a HUGE favor! Dr Rubenstein, Anne Marie Karesh, Lucky and I were recent co hosts and guests on New York City’s biggest and most listened to music station, the show focused on promoting the amazing and tireless work of the Humane Society (perspiring just thinking about it – especially with the Manhattan summer humidity) our Paws for Style fundraiser benefiting the HSUS of NY, Animal Fair Magazine and of course our new show on CBS, Greatest American Dog (Lucky and I – we’re both judges), airing this Thursday July 10th. Kat McPhee has already volunteered her dogs for a 2nd season, “Larry and Nina should be guests on Greatest American Dog because they’re like humans and there perfect. I love them.” DON'T FORGET TO TUNE IN AND SUPPORT LUCKY!!!!!!
