Lucky and I did our usual jaunt from West Coast to East Coast leaving the palm trees behind and saying hello to the hot humidity of Manhattan. It's great to be back but Lucky's been treated a little differently since her new gig has been announced in the media and I think the dogs on the city streets are sniffing her bum in completely new way.
Did everyone check out Living Lohan last night on E!? Lucky and I made a cameo on the show that centers around the lives of Dina and Ali Lohan. Lucky was quite embarrassed watching the clip of her arguing with Lindsay Lohan's jack russell (one of five) but I told Lucky "hey, at least you're not arguing with a Lohan!" Special thanks to Dina, she truly is an outstanding mother to her litter of children and dogs.
This week Lucky and I hopped on over to the Coalition For the Homeless Carnival Night for Kids in Central Park. Back in LA I bumped into Alec Baldwin, (who does a potpourri of work for the foundation), at The Grand Havana (where Lucky wasn't present because she can't stand cigar smoke). Baldwin and I discussed our love for Mary Brosnahan, executive director of the foundation (who personally inspired me to work with both homeless pets and animals), and Lucky and I were both happy to see him show up at the event in Manhattan, surprising everyone. Baldwin is a huge pet-lover and we hear that back when he was with Kim Basinger the couple had eleven dogs, seven cats and a wolf – that's enough animals to have a Where Are They Now (VH1 – style) special on Animal Planet! The event supported Camp Homeward Bound, a program to help send homeless children to summer camp as well as Bound For Success, an after school and summer day program. Lucky wasn't so happy that she couldn't participate in all the carnival fun, but I did let her have a taste of cotton candy, which she loved. For more information on these programs check out: CoalitionForTheHomeless.org.
Continuing with the kids theme, Lucky and I showed our support at the Books For Kids Cocktail Party at Pink Elephant. Books For Kids is a fabulous foundation set up to help promote literacy in youth by purchasing books, building libraries and organizing community events. We bumped into dog lover and gossip disher of CBS' The Insider, Lara Spencer, who came without her Labradoodle named Harry, a rescue from Hurricane Katrina. Harry got his name similarly to how Lucky got hers – Lucky was Lucky and Harry was Hairy. Throughout the night Lucky seemed to hide her head in what looked like shame and I wondered why? She later told me it was because she couldn't read – I told her that she shouldn't be ashamed because she can read with her snout – a talent us humans will never have… and if we did we'd see a lot less noses in books and a lot more noses up in the air which is definitely not a good thing (snoot-snooty). This week Lucky and I also stopped by the release for Bob Morris's new book Assisted Living. Lucky loved the idea of the book so much that she was thinking about writing her own spin-off novel called Assisted Housebreaking. We chatted with Tatum O'Neil and hunky Josh Lucas (definitely would be a Golden Retriever, if he was a dog). O'Neil was still in mourning of her dog Lena, a death that drove her to participate in some recent nefarious activities in lower Manhattan. All I know is that if Lucky passed on the last place you’d see me is buying drugs on the city streets. We all enjoyed the evening, karaoke and the special ukulele performance from Morris himself.
Having recently left LA, Lucky and I headed of in search of the high seas in other ways. This time we set sail on the Forbes Highlander Yacht with our friend and faux-Greek cousin, Peter Diamandis. Diamandis still promises Lucky that she will be the first dog in zero gravity, but the night wasn't for Lucky, but for Google co-founder Sergei Brin who was celebrating his own launch into space. High seas first, then high space I suppose (especially after too many cocktails – not Sergay – in general).
Lucky and I certainly are glad to be back in New York City, but surely we miss LA and everyone at Greatest American Dog … the crew, fellow judges, makeup, hair people, all the producers and for little Lucky, she pines for grass on the grounds of the Canine Academy.
