Spring is beginning to creep up on us, and that means time to travel. Whether it's a vacation, holiday or just an adventurous outing, traveling can be a relaxing and memorable event, especially if you bring your pet along for the ride. With all the traveling Lucky and I do, I'm starting to think that Lucky might enjoy traveling more than I do. Although Lucky and I stayed put in New York this week, it seemed everything we did had to do with the open road.
First stop was the 2008 International Auto Show where Lucky and I checked out the latest in automobile technology. Of course Lucky wanted to sit in all the chic new car models, head out the window as her hair was in the wind. Once she realized all the cars were staying put, Lucky played the diva and demanded wind-machines… who does she think she is, Beyoncé? I guess Lucky was inspired by the teaser for Warner Brother's new live action film Speed Racer (featuring the celebrity voice work of Christina Ricci, Emile Hirsch, Matthew Fox, Susan Sarandon and John Goodman), which was also playing at the Auto Show.
Meanwhile, while Lucky was playing the show model, I was working the Volvo booth to help support Bark Buckle UP, a program dedicated to pet safety on the road. I also announced our Fourth Annual Cesar Dog Bone Awards, the first awards of its kind recognizing pet friendliness, hospitality and accommodations in seven specialized categories. This year's reader-selected winners have certainly earned their awards and congratulations go out to the winners in all seven pet-friendly categories: Continental Airlines (Airline), Sherpa Bags (Product), The Humane Society of Louisiana (Shelter), Volvo (Car), the Fairmont Scottsdale Princess (Resort), The Driskill Hotel in Austin (Hotel) and New York City, our reader's choice as the Pet Friendliest City. It comes as no surprise that New York was picked as the pet-friendliest city, where else in the world can you shop, dine and even drink with your dog?
This week Lucky and I also attended a special screening at the very private Core Club for Amy Redford's (daughter of Oscar-winner Robert Redford) new film, The Guitar. Lucky never ceases to amaze me when it comes to venues – she snuck into the no-dogs-allowed Auto Show and now she's at the Core Club! Amy told us about her Pit Bull, Toby¸ who was rescued from a shelter in Brooklyn.
